Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about our eye care services? We've answered the ones we hear most often below. Don't see what you're looking for — just give us a call.

We offer a lot more than just glasses prescriptions. Our office provides comprehensive eye exams, contact lens fittings, pediatric eye exams, diabetic eye exams, dry eye treatment, and medical eye care for conditions like glaucoma macular degeneration, and infections. We also have a great selection of frames and lenses in the office. Whether you need routine vision care or something more specific, we can take care of you right here in our Muncy office.
-
Yes, we accept most major vision and medical insurance plans. Since some eye conditions are billed through medical insurance rather than vision insurance, it's always a good idea to call us ahead of your visit so we can verify your benefits and walk you through what's covered. Our front desk team is great at helping patients sort this out before they come in — no surprises.
-
For most adults, we recommend a comprehensive eye exam every year. Even if your vision feels fine, a lot of conditions like glaucoma, early macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease don't cause noticeable symptoms until they've already progressed. Catching things early makes a big difference. If you have diabetes, wear contacts, or have a family history of eye disease, annual exams are especially important.
-
We do our best to accommodate same-day eye exam requests depending on the schedule that day. If something is bothering you — red eyes, sudden blurry vision, eye pain — don't wait. Call us first thing in the morning and we'll do everything we can to get you in. For routine exams, scheduling a few days ahead usually gets you the time slot that works best for you.
-
A few things make the visit go smoothly. Bring your current glasses or contact lenses, a list of any medications you're taking, your vision and medical insurance card, and a photo ID. If you've had eye exams somewhere else before and want us to have your history, we can usually request those records ahead of time. Just give us a heads up when you schedule.
-
Absolutely — and we start seeing kids at a very young age. Early eye exams matter because children don't always realize their vision is off. They just think the world looks the way it looks. We check for lazy eye, crossed eyes, focusing issues, and vision clarity. Our office is relaxed and kid-friendly, and we're patient with little ones who are nervous. Parents in the Muncy School District and East Lycoming School Districts have been bringing their kids to us for years.
-
We offer straightforward self-pay pricing for patients without insurance. Give us a call and we'll walk you through the current costs for a comprehensive exam, contact lens fitting, or any other service you need. We believe good eye care shouldn't be out of reach, and we're happy to talk through your options before you come in so you know exactly what to expect.
-
Yes, and these are two of the most common things we see. Dry eye is a real medical condition — not just minor irritation — and we find the root cause before recommending treatment. Red eyes can mean a lot of different things, from allergies to infections to something that needs more immediate attention. Either way, don't just tough it out. Come in and let us take a look. Most of the time we can get you feeling better pretty quickly.
-
We carry a solid mix of frames at different price points — popular name brands alongside more affordable options — so there's something for everyone. For contacts, we stock trusted brands and can order specialty lenses if you need something specific. Our optician team will help you figure out what actually makes sense for your prescription, your lifestyle, and your budget. No pressure, just honest recommendations.
-
Most prescription glasses are ready within 7 to 14 business days. If you need contacts, they can often ship directly to your home within a few days once your prescription is on file. If you need glasses faster for any reason, let us know when you order and we'll see what we can do. We know waiting is frustrating and we try to move as quickly as we can.
-
We don’t perform LASIK surgery ourselves, but if you’re curious about whether LASIK might be right for you, just ask us at your next exam. During your visit Dr. Mabus can evaluate your prescription, corneal health, and overall eye health and give you an honest opinion on whether you’d likely be a good candidate. If it looks like a great fit, we’re happy to refer you to a trusted LASIK surgeon in the area. It’s one of those conversations we have all the time — there’s no separate appointment needed, just bring it up.

You've found us! We're located right here in Muncy, PA close to Sheetz on PA 405 and serve patients from across Lycoming County including Pennsdale, Benton, Hughesville, Montgomery, Watsontown, and Picture Rocks. We're easy to get to and we're always accepting new patients. Whether you need a routine eye exam, contacts, or treatment for a specific eye condition, we're your local optometrist close to home.
-
An optometrist is your primary eye care provider. We handle comprehensive eye exams, prescribe glasses and contacts, diagnose eye conditions, and treat a wide range of eye problems right in our office. An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye surgery and more complex medical cases. Most people never need an ophthalmologist for routine care — and when you do, we'll refer you to the right surgeon and co-manage your care every step of the way.
-
Yes, and we encourage every diabetic patient to come in for a dilated eye exam at least once a year. Diabetes can damage the small blood vessels inside your eye — a condition called diabetic retinopathy — and most people don't notice any symptoms until it's already progressed. Catching it early makes a huge difference. We coordinate directly with your primary care doctor or endocrinologist so your eye health is part of your overall diabetes management plan.

Call us right away. Sudden changes in vision, eye pain, new floaters or flashes, or eyes that are red and won't clear up on their own are all things we want to look at quickly. Don't wait on those symptoms or assume they'll go away. We see medical eye cases in our office and we do our best to get urgent situations seen the same day. When something feels wrong with your eyes, trust that feeling and give us a call.

Yes, and it's one of the most common things we see — especially in the fall and winter when heating systems dry the air out and screen time goes up. Dry eye is a real medical condition, not just minor irritation. We find the root cause first — whether it's tear production, tear quality, or oil gland problems — and then put together a treatment plan built around your specific situation. That might include prescription drops, in-office treatments, lid care routines, or simple lifestyle adjustments. You don't have to just live with it.

We accept most major vision and medical insurance plans including VSP, EyeMed, VBA, Medicare, and many others. Because some eye conditions are billed through medical insurance rather than vision insurance, it's always worth calling us before your visit so we can verify your benefits and make sure there are no surprises. We also see patients without insurance and offer straightforward self-pay pricing. Our front desk team is happy to help you figure out the details before you come in.
