Your Optometrist in Muncy, PA — Where
Neighbors Take Care of Neighbors

Dr. Erika Mabus has been caring for eyes across Lycoming County for over 10 years, but this Muncy practice has been here since 198. A Turbotville native herself, she wanted her neighbors to continue to have access to personal, unhurried eye care close to home. Today, she and her team see patients of all ages — from toddlers to grandparents — right here on Route 405.

A few years ago, a mom from Pennsdale called our office concerned. Her child had been squinting through every class at Muncy Elementary and getting headaches daily. She didn’t know where to go. She’d driven past our office on Route 405 a hundred times and just never stopped in. That afternoon, she did. We fit him with his first pair of glasses. Soon he could read the board and his headaches subsided. He couldn’t believe what he’d been missing.

That’s the kind of thing that happens when people in our area finally connect with a good optometrist. We serve Muncy, Pennsdale, Hughesville, Picture Rocks, Benton, Montgomery, Williamsport and the surrounding Lycoming County communities. If you’re looking for an optometrist who actually knows this area — who understands farming families, kids in local schools, patients managing diabetes, and people who just want to see better — you’re in the right place.

  • Often people in the area tell us they haven’t had their eyes checked in years. Life gets busy. We get that. Between the demanding work in the oil and gas industry, keeping up with the farm, or just running kids to and from practice, eye care falls to the bottom of the list. But here’s the thing — a comprehensive eye exam isn’t just about getting a glasses prescription. It’s how we catch glaucoma early, spot signs of high blood pressure, and make sure your eyes are actually healthy, not just “good enough.”

Our comprehensive eye exams take about 45 minutes and cover everything: vision acuity, eye pressure, peripheral vision, retinal health, and more. We use up-to-date equipment and we take time to actually talk to you. No rushing. If you haven’t had an eye exam in the last year or two, now is a good time to schedule one.

  • A lot of folks come to us after ordering contacts online and wondering why their eyes hurt or their vision is blurry. Contact lenses aren’t one-size-fits-all — the fit matters just as much as the prescription. A contact lens exam is different from a regular glasses exam, and it’s how we make sure the lenses you wear are actually safe and comfortable for your eyes.

We fit contacts for people of all ages, including teens playing sports at Muncy High School and adults who’ve worn glasses their whole lives and are finally ready to try something different. We carry daily, bi-weekly, and monthly lenses, as well as options for people with astigmatism or who need multifocal contacts. Our contact lens fittings include a trial pair so you can make sure they feel right before you commit.

  • We function as a full eye care center — not just a place to pick out frames. When something’s wrong with your eyes, you want someone who can actually diagnose and treat the problem, not just send you somewhere else. We handle medical eye conditions in-office, co-manage surgical cases like cataracts with local surgeons, and provide follow-up care right here in Muncy.

People come to us from all over Lycoming County and surrounding counties. From Williamsport, Hughesville, Muncy Valley, Montgomery, and even up from Watsontown when they need an eye care center that feels local and personable. We know most of our patients by name. That’s not something you get at a chain optical.

  • Diabetic eye disease is one of the leading causes of blindness in adults — and most people don’t feel any symptoms until damage is already done. If you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, your doctor has probably told you to get your eyes checked every year. We make that easy. Our diabetic eye exams check for diabetic retinopathy, swelling in the retina, and other changes that signal how well your blood sugar is being managed.

We work closely with primary care docs and endocrinologists in the Muncy and Williamsport area so your eye care is part of the bigger picture of managing your diabetes. We’ll send detailed exam notes to your medical team so everyone’s on the same page. If we spot something concerning, we don’t make you wait — we’ll get you a referral quickly.

  • Dry eyes are incredibly common especially in the harsh Pennsylvania winters when our old drafty farmhouses and homes have us turning up the heat and the air gets real dry. Add in screen time — whether you’re working from home after hours or the kids are on tablets — and it’s a recipe for irritated, scratchy, tired eyes. A lot of patients just buy over-the-counter drops and suffer through it. But you don’t have to.

We evaluate the root cause of your dry eye — whether it’s tear production, tear quality, or lid gland problems — and put together a treatment plan that actually works for you. This might include prescription drops, lid hygiene routines, omega-3 recommendations, or in-office treatments. Dry eye is a real condition and we treat it like one.

  • Kids don’t always know their vision is bad. They just think the world looks the way it looks. That’s why pediatric eye exams are so important — especially before kindergarten and every year after that. We see kids starting at 6 months old and we’re good with the little ones who are nervous or wiggly. Our office is comfortable and we go at the kid’s pace.

We check for amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (crossed eyes), focusing problems, and basic vision acuity. If your child needs glasses, we have a great selection of kid-friendly frames in styles they’ll actually want to wear. Parents in the Muncy School District have brought their kids to us for years. If it’s been awhile or you’ve never had your little one’s eyes examined, don’t put it off.

  • Sometimes people have eye symptoms that go beyond just needing a new prescription. Red eyes that won’t go away. Sudden floaters or flashes. Blurry vision that came on fast. Eye pain. These things need a medical eye exam — not just a routine vision check. We see medical eye cases in our office and we take them seriously.

Common conditions we treat include conjunctivitis (pink eye), corneal abrasions, foreign body removal, and infections. We also monitor chronic conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and ocular hypertension. If you’ve got something going on with your eyes and you’re not sure if it’s urgent, just call us. We’d rather you call and it be nothing than wait on something that needed attention.

  • Eye emergencies don’t wait for a convenient time — and when something sudden happens, the last place you want to end up is sitting in a general ER waiting room. If you’ve got sudden vision loss, an object stuck in your eye, a chemical splash, severe eye pain, or a big increase in floaters and flashes, call us first. In most cases we can get you in faster and give you more targeted care than an urgent care or emergency room can.

We treat corneal scratches, eye infections that are getting out of hand, foreign body removal, trauma from accidents or sports, and acute eye conditions that need same-day attention. We serve patients from across Lycoming County — Muncy, Williamsport, Hughesville, and beyond. When your eyes are in trouble, don’t wait. Give us a call.
