A comprehensive eye exam is way more than just reading an eye chart. We look at your whole eye — from how well you see up close and far away, to the pressure inside your eye, to the health of your retina in the back. We're checking for things like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy — conditions that often show no symptoms in the early stages but can cause serious vision loss if they're not caught in time.

What We Check During Your Exam

  • Visual acuity testing — this is the classic eye chart, checking both near and distance vision

  • Refraction to figure out your glasses or contact lens prescription

  • Eye pressure testing for glaucoma

  • Retinal exam using advanced digital imaging

  • Evaluation of eye alignment, focusing, and muscle coordination

How Often Should You Get Your Eyes Checked?

Good question — and the answer depends on your age and health history. Most adults should come in every year. If you're over 60, or if you have diabetes or high blood pressure, annual exams are really important. For kids, we recommend a first exam at 6 months, again around age 3, and then before they start school. After that, every year during the school years is ideal since vision problems can sneak up and affect reading and learning.
